Ph.D. in Architecture, City University of Hong Kong, 2012 admission

City University of Hong Kong was ranked around 110 in the world in 2011 by Times Higher Education, UK. The city of Hong Kong, CityU and other institutions ally forces to provide an excellent learning environment for students.
The topic of studies can be initiated by students or follow the supervisors' interests.

Ph.D. study at CityU will last for three years. Students will take courses of at least 14 credit units, plus a dissertation.
Academic requirements of admission:
Master and bachelor degree holders from a recognized university, or people who can get master degree in the summer of 2012.
For students from China’s institutions, averagely 85/100 and above for the main courses;
For UK and HK system, 1st class honor, distinction, or at least 2nd class upper band; For US and HK system, CGPA 3.4 and above; and
For Australian system, 5 from 7 points scale.
Achievements in the master degree period have more weights.
If you have won design competition, or had internationally refereed paper, your application will be given more points.
English requirements:
Applicants from an institution where the language of teaching is not English should satisfy the minimum English proficiency requirements as follows:
A minimum TOEFL score of 550 (paper-based) or 213 (computer-based) or 79 (internet-based); or
A minimum overall band score of 6.5 in IELTS; or
Band 6 in the Chinese mainland’s College English Test.
Tuition and studentship:
Tuition fee is HK$ 42,000 a year. The studentship is HK$14,000 a month. Self-financing and part time mode will not be considered. If you are admitted, you will have studentship. All students will pay the tuition fee. After one year study, students can apply for scholarship to cover the tuition fee. Students are entitled to international conference grant and other scholarships.
There is a ‘Hong Kong Ph.D. Fellowship’. Successful applicant can obtain HK$250,000 a year plus other benefits. Applicants should have excellent academic achievements including publications in prestigious international journals.
Application is made through on-line. All materials must be uploaded before January 31, 2012. No action will be taken if your materials are not completed. The results will be notified to applicants in April.
