This is a really great DVD for the 'BEST' live aid performance to date. Gone but not forgotten...
The music and performances on the DVD are really good like Queen, David Bowie, Elton John, U2, Dire Straights etc...
The biggest problems with it, is there are lots of tracks and performances missing!! i.e elton john - i'm still standing
If I remember back then, 'Wham' was in it as well im sure!!!
Not sure why they left these bands or tracks from the DVD, I do know that the microphones were going wrong all day, and some songs you couldn't hear, maybe that was the reason, but they should had put it on anyway!
Its a fantastic DVD, really good, but only 3 stars as its incomplete!

1985年7月13日伦敦、费城同时进行的援非演唱会，至目前仍是全球最大的舞台募款活动。不过一切的源头应该追溯到由于内战与连年干旱爆发大饥荒的非洲最古老独立邦国衣索匹亚。在1984年圣诞节前原Boomtown Rats合唱团的团员、也是爱尔兰知名摇滚歌手Bob Geldof与英籍电子团Ultravox的Midge Ure合写一首'Do They Know It''s Xmas'并召集了当红的英籍歌手与团体如保罗·杨、文化俱乐部(主唱乔治男孩)、菲尔·柯林斯、都兰都兰合唱团、史汀…组成临时超级团体Band Aid演唱，期望能募款七万五千英镑来帮助这些饿难民。此曲在12月15日发行单曲一举拿下冠军，隔周在美国发行，于1985年元月亦拿下一张金唱片，最高名次是13名。社会大众亦广泛注意到非洲饥荒的情形。
美国的流行歌手们自然也不落人后，当红的麦可·杰克森与莱昂那·李奇也合作了一首 'We Are The World' 以为呼应，召集演唱的美籍歌手除他们二人外还包括史提夫·旺德、“工人皇帝”布鲁斯·史普林斯汀、乡村巨星肯尼·罗杰斯、鲍伯·迪伦…，此超级乐团取名为USA For Africa，阵容更胜前者。此单曲1985年3月23日在美发行，四周后拿下冠军的同时也在英国上榜亦高居王座，此一单曲光美国一地便狂卖了四白金。后来USA For Africa也推出了专辑，又卖了三白金，不过这时援助的对象已不仅只衣索匹亚，而扩及到非洲其它国家的难民。
然而由Band Aid、USA For Africa点起的火苗并未划下句点反而继续燃烧，Bob Geldof等艺人们结合当时先进之传媒筹划一场共长达十六个小时、跨越大西洋两岸的大型现场演唱会，此演唱会就是这套DVD的主题Live Aid。两个场地分别是英国伦敦温布利体育场以及美国费城肯尼迪体育场，时间是在1985年7月13日。六十多组艺人团体以接力方式进行演唱会，电视亦做全球同步转播，工程之浩大可想而知。事隔快20年这场盛事首次将以豪华版4张一套的DVD发行，节目包含演唱会与音乐录像带、纪录片…总常约10小时，音效除杜比2.0、杜比5.1环绕，还有dts 5.1环绕，字幕有英、法、西、日文供选择。当年错过或怀念的乐迷现在都可藉由此DVD重温当年盛况。

碟评：这是一套期待已久的音乐碟，自在英国和日本的亚马逊网站上看到它的出现，我就寄希望有人会注意到这套碟，结果L9推出了这套碟的D9×4完整版，也是此碟目前市面唯一版本，令人颇为惊喜。观看这个演唱会最大的乐趣，在于能看到20年前那些摇滚大牌的原味演出，一首首耳熟能详的金曲响起，在电视机前看绝对是坐不住的。我看第二碟英国部分时，从恐惧海峡一出场，到皇后乐队下场，就一直站着看完。促使我站着看的另外一个原因，是在歌唱部分全部配备了英文歌词，即你也可以当它的卡拉ok伴唱碟。
值得一提的是，此碟虽然是二三等区共版，但却没有中文字幕，L9不仅将其中出现的歌曲搜罗到英文字幕打出，并把所有串场词配了翻译不错的中文字幕，堪称超级制作。
四碟总长10个多小时，每碟都可以按照英国、美国部分进入观看也可以直接全部播放，前两碟基本是英国歌星的天下，后两碟才是美国人发威的时候。美国部分还请到了大明星杰克·尼克尔森、笑星蔡维·切斯担任串场。随碟还附赠一本20多页的小册子，上有当年创作赈灾歌曲的手稿等图片。另外，封底写有国语配音，那是写错了。
