If there is anyone out there (集体大笑)--who still doubts that America is a place where all things are possible (众大笑)-- who still wonders if the dream of our founders is alive in our time (更大的笑)-- who still question s the power of our democracy (猛烈地笑)--tonight is your answer(笑). 西塞罗的典型句式是相陈相因的三句排列(tricolon),如奥巴马使用的who still doub ts... who still wonders... who still questions... 人的特殊能力在于,人是不需亲身经验而能与其它个体有理解和共同感情的 :Unlike any other creature on this planet, humans can learn and understand, without having experienced. They can think themselves into other people's m inds, imagine themselves into other people's places. One of the many things I learned at the end of that Classics corridor down w hich I ventured at the age of 18, in search of something I could not then de fine, was this, written by the Greek author Plutarch: What we achieve inward ly will change outer reality. That is an astonishing statement and yet proven a thousand times every day o f our lives. It expresses, in part, our inescapable connection with the outs ide world, the fact that we touch other people's lives simply by existing. But how much more are you, Harvard graduates of 2008, likely to touch other people's lives? Your intelligence, your capacity for hard work, the educatio n you have earned and received, give you unique status, and unique responsib ilities. Even your nationality sets you apart. The great majority of you bel ong to the world's only remaining superpower. The way you vote, the way you live, the way you protest, the pressure you bring to bear on your government , has an impact way beyond your borders. That is your privilege, and your bu rden. If you choose to use your status and influence to raise your voice on behalf of those who have no voice; if you choose to identify not only with the pow erful, but with the powerless; if you retain the ability to imagine yourself into the lives of those who do not have your advantages, then it will not o nly be your proud families who celebrate your existence, but thousands and m illions of people whose reality you have helped transform for the better. We do not need magic to change the world, we carry all the power we need insid e ourselves already: we have the power to imagine better. http://bdwm.net/bbs/t.php?Reader/M.1226271631.A/5659/0/0
