《红楼梦》译本研读（杨宪益和霍克斯本）（六）
一日，正当嗟悼之际，俄见一僧一道远远而来，生得骨骼不凡，丰神迥异，说说笑笑来至峰下，坐于石边高谈快论。先是说些云山雾海神仙玄幻之事，后便说到红尘中荣华富贵。此石听了，不觉打动凡心，也想要到人间去享一享这荣华富贵，但自恨粗蠢，不得已，便口吐人言，向那僧道说道：……
“骨骼不凡，丰神迥异”其实不太好理解，具体是个什么样子呢？我就只能理解为长得特别，相貌出众，气度非凡之类。
我译：
One day, when the stone was indulged in lamentation and distress, there appeared a monk and a Taoist priest from the distance, who, impressive in bearing and with distinctive appearance, laughed and chatted all the way under the peak. The two mythical figures, sitting beside that stone, mentioned first about the supernatural and celestial events and fantasies, then about the glory and splendor in the mortal world. Hearing all this, the stone had a heart set on the mundane and a zeal for enjoying the wealth and rank in the secular world, but it felt itself inferior due to its slow-witted mind. It had no alternative but to speak out in human’s language: “…..”
杨译：
One day as the Stone was brooding over its fate, it saw approaching from the distance a Buddhist monk and Taoist priest, both of striking demeanour and distinguished appearance. They came up to the Stone and sat down to chat
霍译：
One day, in the midst of its lamentings, it saw a monk and a Taoist approaching from a great distance, each of them remarkable for certain eccentricities of manner and appearance. When they arrived at the foot of Greensickness Peak, they sat down on the ground and began to talk.
对比一下两个译本吧。
嗟悼之际was brooding over its fate vs. in the midst of its lamentings
生得骨骼不凡，丰神迥异both of striking demeanour and distinguished appearance vs. each of them remarkable for certain eccentricities of manner and appearance
两个译本都用了it saw (approaching)的句式，视角还是放在石头上。approach也是个很生动的词，逐渐接近的状态。
这里好大一段两个译本居然都省去不译了，不知道为何。明天只能从有译本的地方继续往下走了。
