2019-2020
Black-Blank Art
In 2020, we try to invoke a new contemporary Art movement: Black-Blank Art, which is an art type of profound meaning that we have discussed for a long time.
No one would expect that in 2020 the world would come to the end of the age and come back to the origin because public sanitary conditions have become either black or blank, or be a confused mass of black and blank (just as confusing right and wrong).
No one would expect that human beings are distinguished as infectors and non-infectors. In US, black people even started a Black Lives Matter movement. Black and white seems to be a sharply contrast political options, which are just like colloquial Chinese (Whiteness of Light or future) and classic Chinese (Blackness of night or traditional) in China’s New Cultural Movement.

In 2020, the world returns to the starting point of civilization where humanity and nature meet and in which people come to rethink about the world and life.
What is Black-Blank Art? Here we will give some directional instructions about its form:
1. Black and blank in Black-Blank Art do not refer to the color black or the color white, therefore they do not mean black and white or black plus white which do not embody the actual meaning of this art, as referred by anecdotal view. Black and blank in the art type are Ur-phenomena of the world, just like day and night, and a multi-perspective attitude towards extremism and an inclusive thinking mode in face of unipolarity. The art type embodies two perspectives, yin and yang, which coexist and interact at the same time, and philosophically expresses yin and yang. However, yin and yang in this case surpass the circle of yin and yang in traditional culture, and they further denote possibilities of coexistence and interaction considering the coming new Cold War and Shooting War.
2. In Chinese traditional culture, Black-Blank Art, which in philosophical term is “Know and Observe All but Stay Obscure”, and in artistic term is “plan blanks just as plan black parts”, tries to use blanks to create a natural world in which human beings and nature can interact with each other, and yin and yang melt perfectly. However, because of convergence, Black-Blank Art in the old form lacks tension between people and nature and inner motivation of transition. Modern Black-Blank Art presents the wanted tension of black and blank for it totally transposes or mixed black and blank to create a complicated scenario.

3. As for modern art, Black-Blank Art also presents in western culture, yet it goes to a unipolar state, from abstractism to generalism, and to minimalism, and to monochrome black painting or white painting. Even in eastern modern art, works such as Korean Dansaekhwa are unipolar.. That is why we do not adopt the term “Yin-Yang Art”, but “Black-Blank Art” –it clarifies the art type’s role in art history. However, as a modern art type, abstractness is also vital. Modern Black-Blank Art needs abstractness to interact with the opposite pole to get rid of the drawbacks of being unipolar, which means that blacks need to interact with blanks.
4. Black-Blank Art is surely related to colors, especially characterized by the potential of ink and water, advantages of Chinese culture. In Chinese culture, black is mysterious black, while blank is light color. When black and blank interact with each other and make the infra-transition, there will be discreet infra-color. Yet Black-Blank Art does not mean traditional ink painting or various contemporary ink painting, but is a new art type of ink painting that combines naturalness and emptiness, and reforms itself after the distinction between abstracting and conceptualization.
5. Modern Black-Blank Art has to include the abstractness and rationality from western culture, just like modern western culture has to absorb preference of nature from eastern culture. That is to say, a seemingly incredible connection has to be created between abstractness and naturalness, technology and nature, concept and body, virtuality and chaos, ready-mades and painting.

6. Black-Blank Art is not about settled opposite poles, but to seek balance between the opposite poles and find the interval between them. It is an art of Betweenness/Zwischen.
7. Black-Blank Art will create a three-dimensional space, extending individual creation in two-dimensional space to three-dimensional adjustment in virtual space, even to multi-dimensional stretches in future opening space. The process shows the transition of complex modernity and represents a new rule of Black-Blank Art.
8. The art type stems from Chinese culture, and develops into a modern narrative of a new thinking mode and a new art form, from traditional yin-yang to nihilism in the modern world(transposing of black and blank), and to interactive black and blanks in the future.
We are in a world where black and blank are transposed and which required an artistic transformation enter into the new relationship between them. In this case, we can open the another door of the world by means of artistic creation and imagination.
