翻译要跨越的是文化差异和语言差异。在语言应用中，文化差异体现在社会功能和内容上。语言差异会在语言形式的各个层次上体现出来，包括了文体形式和句法结构。无论是英译汉还是汉译英，都是以目的语的语言习惯为基准，这样才能地道。具体到句法上，还是刘宓庆说的，英语形合，汉语意合。也就是说，概念和命题之间的逻辑关系，是不是要多用明示表达。

A translator needs to get across cultural and linguistic differences. In the use of languages, cultural difference can be seen in social function and content. Linguistic difference can be found in various levels of linguistic expression, which include both stylistic forms and syntactical structures. In either E-C or C-E translation, the language customs of the target language should be taken as the guidelines of expression such that the translation will be authentic. As far as syntax is concerned, what Liu Miqing said applies: English is hypotactic and Chinese is paratactic. This means whether more explicit expression is used in showing the logical relations between concepts and propositions.
