Li Yuanhong (1864-1928) was originally a mixed and unified army of the Qing Dynasty. After the Wuchang Uprising broke out in 1911, he was appointed as the chief inspector of the army of Hubei Province. When the Republic of China was temporarily established in 1912, he was elected as the temporary vice president.
Li Yuanhong's commemorative coins came into being after Sun Yat Sen became the temporary president of the people's Republic of China. It is said that some people in Wuhan political circles at that time, in order to please Li Yuanhong, ordered the Wuhan minting branch to modify and cast the commemorative coins according to the style of Sun Yat-sen's statue.
