1.中华思想文化术语| “移风易俗”英语怎么说？

Change Social Practices and Customs

§ 乐者，圣人之所乐也，而可以善民心，其感人深，其移风易俗，故先王导之以礼乐而民和睦。（《荀子•乐论》）（“乐”是圣人所喜好的，可以使百姓之心向善，对人有极强的感染力，能移风易俗，因此先王用礼乐引导民众，使他们和睦相处。） Music was appreciated by the sage kings; it improves people’s behavior, stirs and moves them, so they change social practices and customs. Thus the sage kings guided their subjects with music and rites, so that the subjects treated each other with friendship and good will. (Xunzi)

2.翻译辨误| fox和“狐狸精”

原文：She's so foxy, I just can't resist her.

§ 原译：她太狡猾了，我简直无法反抗她。

§ 全句可译为：她太迷人了，我简直无法抗拒（她的魅力）。

辨析：

英语里常说as sly/cunning as a fox，而a fox in lamb's skin（披着羔羊皮的狐狸）指狡猾伪装的敌人。美国英语还有crazy like a fox的说法，意思差不多。

谚语：An old fox needs learn no craft.（老狐狸不必学什么花招。）

fox sleep是“假睡”的意思。

fox还可用做动词，意思为“骗人”，如：Hefoxedhis pursuers by taking another route.（他走了另一条路，骗过了追捕他的人。）

不过，汉语中“狡猾的狐狸”多带有贬义，英语中也用fox指“精明的人”、“足智多谋的人”，比如，美国独立战争中的Francis Marion将军因机智而被称为the Swamp Fox（沼泽狐），二战中希特勒手下的Erwin Rommel因善于随机而变被称为Desert Fox（沙漠之狐）。

美国上世纪60年代出现了一个俚语，把时髦的迷人女郎称为fox。也用fox指有魅力的男性，而形容词foxy除了表示“狡猾的”（当然还有“狐色的”的意思），又增加了“体态诱人的”、“富有魅力的”等意思。

3.容易误译的英语| skeleton at the feast 扫兴的人或物

［例句］　The movie was a skeleton at the feast. ［误译］　那部电影的内容是关于宴会上的骸骨。 ［原意］　那部电影真令人扫兴。 ［说明］　skeleton at the feast意为“扫兴的人或物”。
