布鲁姆《西方正典》之贵族时代阅读书目

布鲁姆按: 从但丁的《神曲》到歌德的《浮士德•第二部》，其间五百年里涌现了大量的文学作品，主要有五个支系：意大利文学、西班牙文学、英国文学、法国文学及德国文学。在本部分及接下来的目录中，有时某些经典大师的作品并未提及，相反，我却试图让大家关注一些我认为是经典但被忽视的作家及作品。从本部分目录开始，有许多优秀但不很重要的作家被略去。我们也将会碰到一些“过时之作”，这是一种在民主时代不断扩展的悲哀，并且在我们这个世纪威胁着我们，让我们透不过气来。在他们自己的年代和自己的国家里备受尊敬的作家有时到了其他年代和其他国家也会有一席之地，但常常会变为一时风行的迷恋之物。在我们当代文学界，这种情况我目睹过几十次，这样的作家和作品完全可以略而不论，我会在最后一部分书目的引言中详谈这个问题。
