《慈經》 (METTA)
Metta is a Pali word meaning loving-kindness.
Metta chanting is the radiation of loving-kindness towards all beings:
May they all be happy and peaceful.
Imee Ooi chants the Pali beautifully.
Metta chanting is soothing, uplifting, joyful and a great healing for the world - pervading it with waves of love.
Truly, may all beings be happy. May they live always in peace and harmony.
緣起：據記載，佛陀在世時，有群比丘在一座森林修行，受到了森林的精靈(他們大多數是樹神)的困擾，導致他們無法好好禪修，最後，他們再也無法忍受時，便回到佛陀的住處，請求佛陀的幫助，佛陀透過神通眼觀察後，對比丘們說：「比丘們，除了那裡，沒有更適合的處所了。你們必須回到原來的地方。」比丘們聽了後便說：「回到原來的地方！這樣仍然會受到樹神的壓迫，而無法禪修。佛陀，為什麼您還要我們回那樣的地方呢？」佛陀回答：「之前你們到那裡，是沒有帶著武器的，現在我將給予你們武器。你們帶著武器回到同樣的地方，繼續練習禪修，那裡是唯一的處所。」
佛陀給予他們的武器，就是無限愛心的修習法──慈心(Metta)。於是佛陀便為比丘們講了這部經，比丘們在學習了慈心觀的方法後，便返回森林，安心並順利地禪修了。
功德回向：藉由唱誦此經所散發的慈心而克服種種障礙。為他們自己找到寧靜和安樂，也幫助其他人這樣修習而獲得快樂。
