Sonnet 12
短诗之十二
When I do count the clock that tells the time
我细数时钟里默默流逝的光阴
And see the brave day sunk in hideous night
凝望璀璨的白日沉入恶夜的暗影
When I behold the violet past prime
我见证紫罗兰的青春消耗殆尽
And sable curls,all silvered o’er with white
蜿蜒的青丝渐被银白渗浸
When lofty trees I see bareen of leaves
参天巨木如今枝叶凋零
Which erst from heat did canopy the herd
而往昔曾是庇护牧人的林荫
And summer’s green all girded up in sheaves
夏日的葱郁全被严冬束紧
Borne on the bier with white and bristly beard
承载于棺木，树须苍白僵硬
Then of thy beauty do I question make
于是我不禁为你的容颜担心
That thou among the wastes of time must go
虚度岁月休怪时光无情
Since sweets and beauties do themselves grow
美貌与娇柔也难逃天意冥冥
And nothing ‘gainst time’s scythe can make defence
一切无不在时间的屠刀下丧命
Save breed,to brave him when he takes thee hence
惟有留待后人来与命运抗衡
