The human mind will always be superior to machines because machines are only tools of human minds. 522
The statement that “The human mind will always be superior to machines because machines are only tools of human minds” sounds precarious for failing to clearly define the meaning of “superior”.
When we say one thing is superior to another because the latter is a tool of the former, we are judging their relative status in a social or ethical sense. As a matter of fact, we human beings sometimes feel quite self-conceited before the nature is right for our assurance that we can, with the aid of science and technology, turn, sooner or later, all the things around us into a tool.
For example, horses and cows are inferior to humans, not only because they are lower animals, but they are used by human beings as tools, to be controlled and utilized. No doubt, machines, invented and made by humans, are tools of human minds.
But obviously, the term “superior” allows a definition from many perspectives. It can refer to the memory power, speed, creativity, extensibility, flexibility, and so forth. In these senses, can we still say that the human mind always performs better than machines?
Absolutely, the answer is “No”. Nowadays, even a common computer could execute binary calculations more than 1million times per second, which human minds certainly couldn’t do. Also, a computer could search myriad information which a human would never achieve even spending all his life time. Moreover, a crane could easily raise one-hundred-ton heavy stuff, which a man would never afford.
In sky, airplanes help people migrate from one place to another in very short time. In sea, cables lying underneath assure us communicate with people across the sea. In Mars, the robot Mars Odyssey explores the planet without oxygen where we could not survive.
From these perspectives, human minds couldn’t say superior to machines. Indeed, the reason why human beings invent so many machines is to solve problems that humans couldn’t do, which shows the fact that although machines are tools of us, they are better than us in many factors. They are the extending parts of our minds to help us explore the universe.
Unfortunately, not every move of human minds brings good changes. As science and technology develops, the environment and population problem gets worse and the starvation is still not solved. Military forces and nuclear power endanger every live on the earth. Machines have no thoughts, it’s the inventor and master—we human beings, who cause such results because of our greedy, selfish, pompous humanity.
The above analysis might remind us human beings of a bare fact: yes, we are sitting on top of the pyramid of creatures on earth; but we are not perfect. Sometimes, it is man who brings himself to the dead mire, just because he is overly confident. Everyone knows that resources we relying on are restricted. What we should learn is to respect every life in the world and using our wisdom to live with the nature in a balance. Only in this way can we lead to a happy life.
As for the question, human minds or machines, which is superior, do you have the answer?
