See bats at the UF Bat House.
Good Luck!”
I'm leaving!"
4. See bats at the UF Bat House.
Just 15 minutes after sunset, close to 150,000 bats fly from the bat house located on Museum Road. The bats first trickle from the house but eventually pepper the sky.
“It’s a unique opportunity to see bats in flight,” said Ken Glover, the pest management coordinator with the Environmental and Health Safety Division at UF.
The house, costing $20,000, was built in 1991 to deter bat colonies from living in campus buildings.
“You can gain an appreciation for these fairly-secret species of wildlife” at the bat house, Glover said, adding that the UF Bat House is the world’s largest occupied bat house
The bats, which together eat 1,500 pounds of insects each night, are best seen on warmer night above 65 degrees.
