答：「黃禍」英文叫the Yellow Peril或the yellow peril。有人說，十三、四世紀時，蒙古人西征，所向披靡，當時歐洲人因稱為「黃禍」，但the Yellow Peril一詞，其實十九世紀末才出現。英文典故詞典Brewer's Dictionary of Phrase and Fable Yellow Peril條下說：A scare, originally raised in Germany in the late 1890s, that the yellow races of China and Japan would rapidly increase in population and overrun the territories occupied by the white races with fearful consequences（黃禍之恐慌，一八八零年代末葉先在德國出現，說中、日黃種民族人口將迅速增加，終將大舉侵佔白種人領土，帶來可怕結果）。韋氏詞典Webster's Ninth New Collegiate Dictionary也說，Yellow Peril一詞，一八九八年第一次見於文字。黃禍論者只是以十三、四世紀蒙古人西征為論據而已。
首先提出Yellow Peril的人是誰，恐怕已無可稽考，但發動第一次世界大戰的德王威廉二世，宣傳「黃禍」甚力，令這觀念深植西方。今天，「黃禍」常用來說亞洲人對西方利益、社會觀念等的侵害，例如：With Chinese state-owned firms and corrupt officials snapping up thousands of hectares of land in the United States, fears of the Yellow Peril are beginning to haunt some Americans（中國的國營公司和貪官在美國爭購土地，面積動輒以千頃計，令一些美國人開始擔心黃禍）。
