A Chronicle of a Sad Youth
by Wang Xiping tr. Fan Jinghua
Water flows, passing the blade-ism of the sickle
and it shies away from sadness too, while a vast field of wheat is heating up.
A local nightingale bears blackness on it back for so long
that it suddenly breaks to songs, sinking into a bouquet of plastic copies.
The light of the world starts up charcoals and bighead fish are boiled
with a school of skinny dipping youngsters. They have put rain boots on the expression
of shroud, walking along the edge of soil-stained fruits, and among them
there is a peasant poet, formed by thickening dusk.
He manages the crazy, weed-like tyranny,
he molds the ring shape of female waists,
and he wakes ponies with gravels and calls them by pet names.
He is bestowed with inspiration by the quick-moving blue.
From here the bard starts his songs about sleep,
at every place he steers balloons, carrying clean sighs to the height of the sky.
Everyone is looking with upturned eyes at the black handle of the eggplant,
and at the starlit sky with a pubic bone lying bare.
A Book of Prayers
By Wang Xiping tr. Fan Jinghua
The foundation cannot hold the building, and the Buddha keeps intact
Its body of earth but not its sex and hair. Mercy tempts, and the lotus turns black and sweet;
Those who kneel down are rapidly consumed by loneliness.
Orpheus of death sends out invitations, in military terms,
And the tongue in the mouth keeps a pose to parallel with love.
His heart is open, with bravado space, smelling of post-war goodbye,
As she says, “Whoever kisses me will lose me.”⃰
The body contains something not good that rises against what is good,
And the one in the mirror is overdosed with air. See how the floating clouds stray,
How the wind strays, and how the blue sky strays too.
Sing! Snow has a way of expression
That is full of flood and the blinding whiteness of old age.
The animals that quietly chew bamboos
Erect a monument for tonight’s rose, and evil ghosts are randomly moving
Empty wood and paper money.
