If I had money to use in investments I'd probably be doing the same thing that Buffett suggests. But as I understand it a large portion of people that have been holding America stocks or invested in mutual funds that hold them are at an age where they can take this sort of position. Retirees that are too old cant invest hoping for higher prices in 10 or 20 years, and they cant risk losing even more equity in the short term.

Once I put my life savings into the market. Mr. Buffett starts to sell his and take profit. I guess that’s why he is rich and I am poor.

I 100% percent agree. The American financial system is one of the strongest financial systems in the world. It is stable and fair and it is good to do business in the United States. (Not to mention that it is backed by the U.S. military.) Now is a great time to buy stocks in American companies.
Now, Mr. Buffet, can you please share the list of American companies that you invested in with me? ;) Thanks.

Great column. But, in the words of Keynes, in the long run we're all dead. For those without a ling time frame, for those of us who need money over the next decade, the advice is not without a potential catastrophic risk.

Of course he is right. He isn't the best investor in the world by accident. One caution, my father taught me: Only invest money in stocks that you will definitely not need for 10 years or more. During this crisis, I am glad I listened to him.

i have a lot of respect for warren buffet. however, i think he had a slight conflict of interest problem when he appeared on the charlie rose show supporting the bailout plan--which would benefit his investment the most! the stock market will eventually come back--but because of this poorly formulated rescue plan, it's going to take a lot longer and at what price--the largest deficit we've ever had and probably the weakest dollar as well! whoever the next president is--he will inherit big problems!

I think Hillary Clinton got it right. It is about "Jobs, baby, Jobs"
As long as Americans have a job to go to, they can pay their mortgage, get health insurance, spend some and then invest some as well.
The lowest common denominator of the American Economy is the American worker, if they remain happy, the economy ( which is by and large a sum of what all the workers pour into it) will be healthy.
The fat cats on Wall Street are finally seeing the view from the other end of the telescope; for years they have been masterminding everything financial that happens on this planet, it is indeed ironic that they have now to depend on the spendings of the humble American worker to sustain the economy.

Mr. Buffett's counsel should be comforting to those inclined to stuff assets under their Sertas. Unlike day traders, hedge fund gurus hunched over their computer models, and cut and run speculators, he is acting from the dramatic lessons of history. Note to parents: Mr. Buffett has been reading voraciously since he was a kid, and many of the judgments that have led to his wealth were informed by this consistent scholarship. We are lucky he is "ours."
