If you want to train 100 percent of your muscle fibers
I’ve never been one for fad workouts.
P90X, Insanity and the Power Plate all came and went, and I continued to hit the bench press, squat rack and work out with
free weights.
But yesterday, I got to work out on a machine that made me believe there is an alternative to free weights.
I was on there for a total of roughly 10 minutes – and as I’m sitting here typing this, soreness is beginning to set into
my shoulders and torso.
The machine is called ISOS, and it currently resides in one of the weight rooms underneath Memorial Stadium.
“If you want to train 100 percent of your muscle fibers, you need to work with a weight that requires you to exert 100-
percent of your effort,” said Josh Norris, who created ISOS. “This machine allows you to do that without free weights.”
Norris is a former Illini defensive tackle and thought up the concept for ISOS because of how much weight he was lifting
during his playing days. He said maxing out with free weights would often become risky.
