How to be a British citizen?

从1902年起，英国在每年5月24日维多利亚女王生日这天庆祝“Empire Day”(帝国纪念日）纪念。在这张1907年时宣传“帝国运动”时的海报上，我们能看到当时作为一个合格的“帝国公民”应该具有哪些作为？ （以下图片及翻译引自http://janetwilliams.wordpress.com/，略有改动）

责任、义务、同情心、牺牲小我。
Responsibility, duty, sympathy, self-sacrifice
目标：
大英帝国的子民，肩负重任，庆祝帝国纪念日，乃体现了人民内心之觉醒。（1905年5月24日，Earl of Meath, 密斯伯爵）（注：此伯爵正是帝国纪念日的推动者。）
“It is intended that the Empire celebration shall be an outward sign of an inner awakening of the people who constitute the British Empire to the serious duties which lie at their door.”
