托福独立作文分享:Job growth or personal interest?

From my perspective, it is more beneficial for students to choose studying areas that interest them rather than those that have significant job growth. There are two reasons why I feel this way, which I will explain in the following essay.
To begin with, although choosing to study fields that have a lot of potential in present days may help young people to find jobs after graduating from college, this approach may have more drawbacks than benefits. This is because when students are not passionate about a particular field of study, they are unlikely to achieve academic success in this field. As a result, even though they are in a promising field, their career prospect may not be as good as they expect because they do not have competitive advantages against other people who are in the same field. My own experience is a compelling example of this idea. When I was applying for universities, I was hesitant about which major to choose because the area I wanted to major in has less potential than other areas. Eventually, instead of choosing literature, which was the area I had been interested in for a long time, I took my parents' advise and chose a more practical area to major in. However, I still could not land on a good job after graduation because my grades were not very impressive when I was still in college. My experience shows that choosing an area of study simply because of its job potential might not be an ideal strategy.
Further, even if the area that students are interested in may not represent the most promising career prospect, their chance of becoming successful in this area is still higher than in others. Without the interest to explore a specific field, students are unlikely to invest the time and energy needed to become successful in this field. For example, a student who chooses to learn computer science simply because he wants to find employment after graduating from college is unlikely to spend his spare time on exploring different coding techniques and the history of the development of computer science. Instead, he is likely to treat his major as a task and all he wants to achieve during his academic career is to pass all the exams. In this sense, he is unlikely to make significant progress in this field of learning and his career prospect might not be as good as he expects.
In conclusion, I think students should always choose areas of study based on their own interests because interest is the key to their success.
