Seer data tutorial 1: A seer data application into cancer tongue patients
Advantages of SEER data is that:
it is comprehensive, it is representable of the U.S standard cancer population
it can be transferred to an excel spreadsheet to run your analysis
it can give you good research questions can be transferred to numerous and publishable research papers to serve your intended career.
Overview of the database
More courses:
how to interpret the data codes,
how to conduct statistical analysis of the cancer data through the seerstat software, or through other statistical packages
In all, the course is to help researchers all over the world with how to use the seer data for their reserach paper production and writing.

What is SEER database?
SEER = Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Result
It is a comprehensive source of data on the incidence, mortality, staging, treatment and survival of cancer cases.
other features:
representative of the US cancer population, more than 6 million cancer cases, collect data on all cancers, data from a number of cancer registries
having larger subgroups of racial and ethnic minorities
------------------
One of the most important assets of this database: its variables.
Demographic variables:
Age, Sex, Race, Marital Status, Month/Year of diagnosis, Birthplace, Geographical county of residence.
Clinical variables:
Primary tumor sita, Laterality, Histological type/Grade, Tumor size, Tumor Extent, Tumor metastasis (Liver, Lung, Bone, Brain), Regional Lymph Node positivity, Stage, Diagnostic confirguration, Reporting Source.
Primary Outcomes:
Survival time, Cancer-Specific cause of death, Cancer non-specific cause of death

SEERstat software is the tool we use to extract our data
download SEERstat soft ware

Frequency Session provide 1. Counts of cases, 2. Percentages, 3. Trends over time (percentage change, annual percentage change).
The Rate Session provide 1. Crude rates (not adjusted), 2. Age-adjusted rates, 3. Trends over time (based on age, percentage change, annual percentage change)., 4. Other statistics
The Survival Session provide 1. Observed survival, 2. Net survival, 3. Crude probability of death, 4. Conditional survival
The Limited duration prevalence session provides 1. Prevalence counts, 2. Crude percentage, 3. Age-adjusted percentage
The life truncated lifetable session provide 1. Cumulative summary page, 2. Detailed life page.
The multiple primary standardized incidence ratio (MP-SIR) provides a comparison of cancer incidence in a defined cohort of cancer incidence in the general population.
The cancer list session provides a table overview of the individual patient data according to the chosen selection criteria and variables. This allows researchers to run numerous statistical tests such as logistic and cox proportional hazards logistic regression.
