The Future of Fan Culture
In the latest, a series of scandals from the showbiz industry have rocked China, turning a spotlight on country’s fan culture. In this context, many a netizen is participating the movement of anti-fan culture, describing such culture is a termite that is gobbling the China’s virtues up. While there are a group of people still show the optimistic attitude toward its future. Today, we are going to analyze the issues of fan culture and its future.
To begin with, we must recognize that there are some advantages brought about by popular culture in the entertainment industry. Why most of us will be inclined to follow celebrities as soon as we get off work? The very reason I consider is that such behaviour can serve as a prescription to alleviate our pressure. As we all know, We are living in a society beset with difficulties such as the scholastic development, the career achievement, the children’s education. Mentally, we need to seek out something interesting to take our mind off the real environment. Out of this intrinsic reason, We follow the versatile idol in a virtual network. Besides, one can not deny the fan culture has something to do with the economy.
Given the listed advantages in the former, the fan culture should have played its role. But why our phone’s screen has been bombarded with massive negative news from the fan army in recent years? Why many people are now deeply concerned with the future of fan culture? Firstly, its core values have been distorted by the celebrities: Kris Wu, a household name all over the country, was exposed to the allegation of raping women under age; Zheng Shuang, as a celebrity, is still struggling in the rabbit hole of surrogacy and tax evasion... Guided by those public figures who are short of the basic virtues, how can we believe the culture will spread its correct ideas? Secondly, the chaotic phenomenon in fandom world comes from its irrational worship of money. Utilized by capitalists, the fan culture has been saturated with trolling, slandering, mudslinging, cyber hunting. And under such developments, youngsters are not only lured to spend large amounts of money voting for their idols, but are incited to flaunt wealth and indulge in luxury. Lastly, the responsibility of regulators cannot be shirked.
What’s the future of fan culture? Objectively, it lies in the efforts of all walks of life, including the Cyberspace Administration, online platforms, individuals. In the socialist country with Chinese characteristics, what we need is a patriotic, advanced and rational fan culture. So, let’s work jointly to rescue the fan culture and kill the termite.
