You should not stereotype anyone. The way you judge those Chinese who eat dogs has no difference in the way if you assert that all Muslim are terrorists. You should notice that STEREOTYPE is such a dangerous thing that back to WWII, Hitler and thousands of millions of Germans stereotyped Jewish people as a whole an inferior nation and thus they executed merciless and unprecedented genocide.
First of all, not all Chinese are keen on eating dogs, take me as an example, I don’t eat dogs, rabbits or snakes or etc, so do my family and lots of my friends. Secondly, don’t impose your values on others, for why can’t you see that you put too many meanings on dogs? What if someone raise a hen or duck as a pet? Will you judge yourself as cruel towards animals when you eat them and as a murderer of their children when you eat their eggs?? You know that Danish people still preserve the rituals to celebrate a child’s grown up by predating Whales? Or Japanese people kill lots of endangered fish for their delicious sushi? Will you judge these traditional rituals or ways of life, or do you still admire the spirits of Viking Pirates and enjoy the Sushi as your favourite Asian food? If the latter, then I should conclude that you are just so hypercritic.
No one likes to be stereotyped. I guess an English or a Scottish or an Irish would probably not so happy if they are mixed up by others. Each of them would very much prefer to be regarded as their own identity, even not as British. So do us, everyone of Chinese.
Let me ask you two basic questions: have you ever been to China and how many Chinese do you really know, by knowing, I mean not only their names even though I doubt that you can say their full names, but also where their hometown is, what nationality they are, what kind of food they eat, whether they possess any religions or cultures, the basic knowledge you may know about your acquaintance. If you cannot answer half of the above questions, then you are in no place to draw any conclusion at all. Compared to 1.4billion Chinese, what you have known about Chinese is like a drop of water to the endless sea, let alone your knowledge about the limited number of Chinese you suppose you know is quite poor and impartial. China has at least 56 ethnic groups and each of them is distinguished from one another, let alone the diversities within even just one group. China covers 9.6million square kilometers of land, let alone the area of sea, and from South to North, from East to West, there are numerous cultures and beliefs, numerous ways of life, and numerous unique individuals.
After revision:
You probably would possess another stereotype about Chinese that all of us are brainwashed by the Communist government. If you do, may I tell that you are equally brainwashed by your government, or say national education system and the mass media in your country? I mean we are all raised up in an environment that something is pre-summarized and pre-designed to be taught to us by the elders, government and society, and together it is called common sense. However, we should apply our independent judgement towards those common senses. I believe you never lack professional judgement at work, but this judgement should also apply to your understanding about outside world, especially the world about which you have little ideas or contacts. Be cautious about the so-called common sense, otherwise it would most likely become an arbitrary bias and dangerous stereotype. Please DO do a little homework before you intend to totally agree with a “common sense”, and please do not let it blind your independent judgement.
Firstly, let me clarify that not all Chinese eat dogs. Take me for example, I don’t eat any meat besides chicken, fish, pork, beef, lamb. Nor did my family or friends eat any none ordinary food.
Have you ever been to China? How many Chinese do you actually know? Can you speak up their full Chinese names, their hometown and their beliefs? Compared to 1.4billion Chinese, what you have known about Chinese is like a drop of water to the endless sea. China has at least 56 ethnic groups and each of them is distinguished from one another, let alone the diversities within even just one group. China covers 9.6million square kilometers of land, and from South to North, from East to West, there are numerous cultures and beliefs, numerous ways of life, and numerous unique individuals.
Don’t stereotype people before you actually know them. Otherwise, you will act in a way no difference as if you assert all Muslim are terrorists.
Secondly, I don’t see you have any solid moral high ground to judge people who regard dog as a cuisine. One man’s meat is another one’s poison. I think you probably know that French people are proud of their world-famous of innocent Snail. Japanese kill endangered fish to make their Sushi which western world are crazy about. Some ethnic group in North Europe still celebrate a child’s grown up by massacring Whales.
Don’t make a fuss about eating dog. It’s just one of the numerous ways of life. What if someone raise a hen or duck as a pet? Will you judge yourself as cruel towards animals when you eat these animals or as a murderer of these animals’ children when you eat the eggs?? I guess you think of nothing but how delicious these dishes are.
In this case, I don’t really think that you care for dogs, you just find a way to impose your ideas on some people about whom you have bias. You’re just being hypocritical.
