It's a huge thing to get adopted as a teen girl, to trust strange people with a foreign language and leave the country with them into an unknown future. And it's a huge thing to let doctors do a big surgery in the face/mouth. Penelope, you took on a lot of very long journeys at an age, other kids fight with their parents about sneakers or cry about a pimple on the nose. Not many of us have experienced only one oft those journeys.
