【20190816 What really makes you happier, to spend money or to save money文本】
Heyang: According to Oriental Daily, a woman in Japan who spent no more than 153 yen or 2 U.S. dollars a day for the past 16 years has achieved her dream of retiring before her 34th birthday. So this lady, known only as Xiao from Japan, reportedly has never bought new clothes since she was 18, choosing a wear only hand-me-downs. She spent only 25 yen, so that's 0.33 U.S. dollars on Udon noodles for dinner every night. After saving up, she has managed to buy 3 apartments, each valued more than 140,000 U. S dollars, and her dream, which she has achieved now is to open a cat cafe, and that's not earning her any money, but she has the rent, as she's leasing out the apartments to keep her business afloat, so Heray Toshal, and it's got us thinking about the money and the money issue. but guys, do you find that story to be inspiring at all?
Nillah: No. No, thank you. I'll have to spend my money, I work hard for it, I spend it and I spend it on experiences because memories, like,, for me, I'm more of a person who likes, you know, consider experiences with people with friends because people come and go, experiences will stay with you. material things, you can buy as many houses as you wan, but 10 years later, 50 years later, when you're old, will you be sitting there and telling your kids, I remember those days, my house is this, and this or would you be telling somebody your travels, your adventures, and stuff like that? So, for me the simple answer is, no, she's not inspiring me at all, but I do admire he for spending on the 2 dollars a day.
Heyang: What about you, Niuhongling, are you inspiredg or not?
Niuhongling: Well too start with what illaha has said, you can have your experience while saving money. There are plenty of ways to do that.
Nillah: Because it sounds like she didn't have any experiences for her to only spend 2 dollars a day. That only mean, which obviously she could afford to adventures, butobviously she is a miser. Yeah, She's the kind of person who just wants to see how money sitting in the bank or seeing material things whereas for me I don't subscribe to that notion, I'm more of, ok, I earn and then I budget, I have to save a bit, I have to travel a bit, I have to eat nice food a bit because of undid. I don't wake up in the morning to go to work just to see my money sitting in the bank and then eating terrible food or stuff like that.
Niuhongling: Yeah, that part actually I agree, because for that lady she's really, really extreme, and I don't even know how to call it. (She's stingy, like...). I don't even know how to qualify her because she actually then did open a cat cafe, which is a lot of (Ok, ok, fine).
Nillah: And I'm also not a lover of cats, so that's you can first...dog coffee.
Niuhongling: The point is that she has a huge goal, and she saved up for a really long time, and then she revealed that dream, she released that, well, she makes that dream come true, so it's like let's say for a person on a street, bloke Joe. Maybe his or her dream is only to buy the next generation Iphone possibly. Heads up guys. Iphone does not take as good pictures nowadays(it doesn't)... Ok, so if you just wanna buy the next Iphone, maybe you need to save up for, I don't know, a month or half a year, that's another thing. But for this lady she saved up for basically her entire life, and that is very extreme. But I do understand that the happiness and joy from saving. it's not entirely about seeing the number in your bank goes up. It's more about having an unexpected experience with the minimize amount of money. For example, I have tried to figure out ways to stay in 5 star Hotels with a little bit of money figuring out their program, their credit system, figuring out which are their partners right now? What kind of bank card should I register so that I can get double the credit and use the credit as an exchange for a good suite in the hotel. So I figure out different ways to save money. I used the amount of money which you can get, let's say a 3 Star Hotel to live in a 5 Star Hotel. Maybe even with happy hours, even though I don't drink. so the thing is, saving gives you this little pleasure that you use your brain, use your smart to you know..There are some stuff..
Nillah: Yeah, you see, saving is not bad. It's like it's this extreme of this lady. She's actually denying herself the pleasures of life. (Yeah) She must have been the most boring person as a friend. I mean, if you cannot, if she, all her life, she only wants to spend 2 dollars, now imagine, saying, it's my birthday this week, please come to my birthday, and it's only a 100 kuai per person for a buffet, for example, And she only wants to spend, what, how much, how much is 2 dollars, 2 dollars, 13 kuai, no, morethan that. Oh, yeah, 15? then she will be like, Oh, sorry, I can't come. And then I'm just like no, I can't be friends with somebody like that. I mean, I need somebody who has.., I mean balance is important. There is a reason they say plan because what if she just unfortunately, things happen, accidents happen, and she passed away then she left all her money and all her houses and her cat without having any life adventures of traveling and stuff like that. I mean, it's really sad.
Heyang: But Nilla, not everybody needs traveling or you know, that to..
Nillah: Ok, not even traveling, I'm talking about like just like adventure program, going out with friends. Obviously she sounds like somebody. If you're somebody who doesn't really want to spend money, but people do not want to be around you, because anytime somebody suggests, let's do something with friends, it always involves money.
Heyang: and that's the part that I find the cold truth of life these days, or is it is? and also with dating as well? (Yeah), it's like nowadays, without money, you don't deserve a social life of any sort, and that thought just(without spending some money), it destroys me. Yeah, and in here with this lady, there's one thing I think I do admire her to a great deal, that is today, when you look at the younger generation, (I wish ...) how many people (well, you need to beg) and how many of us can stick with a goal and a goal that you are constantly adhere to every day in your life. And you manage to hit that on, well after what 15 years and managed to do that, I just find that that persistence to be something I don't have it, but I admire someone who does and I think for her, it's not about like Niuhongling mentioned earlier, I think, it's not about being stingy every day, but it's about being able to achieve a grand goal you set for yourself. And that part I find to be amazing, but guys, bear in mind, a lot of young people these days, or I'm thinking about some of our American counterparts who have severe student debts and that's like, you are carrying that even before you enter the workforce properly, so and other parts of the world, I'm sure there are people who are carrying debt even before you qualified a joy your financial independence or the gains of financial, though that brings you. so, with that in mind, maybe, you know, saving could be pushed up a little bit in the you know, in people's minds.
Niuhongling: Yes, and also shout out to my friends out there, I show up to your party with a Groupon kind of coupon, please don't judge me, I still want to hang out withyou, It's just the saving idea makes me a little bit happiler.
Nillah: Like I said, saving is not bad, everybody must save. It is important, but don't go to the extreme. Save, I mean, come up with a plan you have save and also try to live a little. You know, life is not that serious. Well, have some adventure. (Budget). Yeah, and that's all for today's round table. We'll see you next time.
