English Learning - Letter From Birmingham Jail
The article " Letter from Birmingham Jail " was written by Martin Luther King, Jr. one of the greatest civil right leader in American history. He dedicated his entire life and even sacrificed his life to fight against segregation. He was arrested and put in a jail by the police when he was part of a non-violent civil right movement against segregation in Birmingham Alabama. While he was confined in jail, he read a statement criticizing the non-violent movement being “unwise and untimely”. In the statement wrote by a few white religious leaders, some questions and doubts were raised regarding the purpose of the civil right movements against segregation and the methods adopted by Martin Luther King, Jr. and his fellow brothers. To clarify those questions, raise rebuttal to the criticisms and call for supports from white leaders of churches, Martin Luther King wrote this letter.
