Miner and Worm
—————————————————————
Once upon a time, there was a very high mountain.
The inside of the very high mountain was full of tunnels and caves.
In the tunnels and caves, lived Miner.
Every morning, when bells rang all through the very high mountain, Miner woke up, got dressed and lit up an oil lamp.
Then, he walked down a very long tunnel...
...to work, in a very big factory at a very big cave with other miners.
Every evening, when bells rang all through the very high mountain, Miner straightened up, dusted himself, and picked up his oil lamp.
Then, he walked up the very long tunnel...
...passing by his favourite coffee machine to buy a cup of very hot coffee...
...to home, and Worm, who shared the cave with him.
While Miner drank his coffee, Worm told him a very long story, for he had bored holes everywhere, thus had known everything.
Miner liked Worm’s stories, so as long as there was a story Worm had yet to tell, he would let Worm stay.
But one day, when Miner came home with a cup of coffee as usual, Worm was no where to be seen.
“Worm! Worm! Where you are?” Miner called. So Worm had to emerge from his tiny little wormhole, but he was reluctant to talk.
“You see,” said Worm eventually, “it was a huge mistake that I accidentally bored a hole which led me to the factory. Up and up I went, when the soft soil turned into a hard sole, there, stood the very bitter boss, he frowned and spat at me.
‘You dirty dirt-eating animal,’ snapped the very bitter boss, ‘how dare you show up in my orderly factory? You’ve destroyed my floor, my walls and my ceiling. I shall squash you into the ground!’
Before he finished his speech, I fled as fast as I could. But he was faster. He got a part of me, the part of me that carried all of my stories. I lived, but you must be ashamed of me, now that I’m just a dirt-eating animal with no stories to tell.”
“But Worm,” said Miner, “I would never be ashamed of you. Didn’t you realise that you had just told me one?”
“Ah,” said Worm, “indeed...and now that I think about it, I’ve come up with an even better one.”
“In that case, I’m glad to hear it,” said Miner, sipping at his coffee, which was still warm in his hands.
“Once upon a time,” Worm began, “there was a very high mountain. The inside of the very high mountain was full of tunnels and caves. In the tunnels and caves, lived Miner and Worm... Miner liked Worm’s stories, so as long as there was a story Worm had yet to tell, he would let Worm stay. So, eventually, Worm came up with a very long story which would never ends.”
