一个牧师的儿子，在追赶吸血鬼的过程中被咬，后来变成了现在的Carlisle
1. Instead of bookshelves, this wall was crowded with framed pictures of all sizes, some in vibrant colors, others dull monochromes.
现在我们来到了Carlisle的办公室，一面挂满了画的墙，油画帆布画水彩画，各式各样，几百年的事件记录都在这面墙上，monochromes黑白色调
2. "But I'm actually running a bit late. The hospital called this morning-- Dr. Snow is taking a sick day."

Carlisle是牧师的儿子，职责是消灭女巫吸血鬼这些怪物。有一次，他在追赶一个吸血鬼的途中被咬了，Carlisle怕别人知道自己被咬了以后会把自己烧死，所以躲在一个破箱子里。但过了几天他发现自己已经变成了吸血鬼，就很厌恶自己，想饿死自己。其实细想一下，这个逻辑有点不对啊，怕死才躲起来，结果变成了吸血鬼又要求死？
4. He greatly admired their civility, their refinement, but they persisted in trying to cure his aversion to 'his natural food source.'
Carlisle去了意大利，认识了一个庞大的吸血鬼家族体系，他们高雅精致文明有学识，不像伦敦的吸血鬼那样躲在下水道里，但是Carlisle因为“吃素”，所以跟和他们合不来，aversion to厌恶
5. They tried to persuade him, and he tried to persuade them, to no avail.
