这一章继续探索了为何women tend to not ask。社会对女性的预期和固有偏见就是一个因素。

During the growing up of men and women, they receive different messages and society has different expectations for them, which may affect their self-esteem. Boys are expected to develop self-confidence. 相信你自己擅长于你的工作就自我假定了你值得因为你的好的表现而被很好的奖励，ask for more也清楚展现了你的自信。所以如果一位女性ask for more 就会某种程度上违背了社会对于女性这个角色的预期 也就容易引发别人的敌对。

stereotypes with negative connotations about the abilities of women may influence a woman’s behavior even if she repudiates the stereotype or feels herself to be immune from the damage. 心理暗示的作用不用多讲，违背女性的固有预期所造成的敌对会对女性形成不好的心理暗示 从而影响她们的行为，即使这位女性自己是反对或觉得自己已免疫这种固有预期。
