The theme of the pack is twentieth century architecture
The Four Suits:
diamond (方片) Pre-Modernism
heart (红桃) Post-Modernism
spade (黑桃) Modernism
club (梅花) De-Structuralism
The Jack, Queen, King embody the chief architectural talking heads from each suit
The Ace project captures the concept and suit-style in an independent way
The two JOKERS exist to prod, punctuate, upset and deconstruct whatever the play has so far achieved
The PLAY ARCHITECTUER pack of cards offers infinite possibilities and variations
Hole worlds?
Showing your hand takes on a poker-dimension... expressionists meet the Japanese... these of a kind... A royal flush or face-down with the lonely 2 of spades
Exposed?
Raise your game; play to enjoy architecture... remember when it is in the pot it is no more yours...
Enjoy PLAY ARCHITECTURE.
1 Robert Venturi / Scott Brown - "Learning from Las Vegas"
Adopting Ed Rushca's "Every Building on the Sunset Strip" (1966), as a prototype, Robert Venturi / Scott Brown map the Las Vegas Strip without reference to a single building and re-constitute the urban landscape out of language itself. Their cacophony of overlapping signs not only describes the street as a communication system, but produces the visual noise of postwar urban experience.
2 Rem Koolhass - "CalTrans"
Rem Koolhass has developed the narrative-driven picture book. He asserts a design's logical necessity rather than tells a story of the design process. In this exampler, architectural theory is reduced to an impossibly small number of words just as design is equally condensed to an almost industrially primitive form.
3 Elizaberth Diller / Ricardo Scofidio - "The Withdrawing Room"
4 Deniel Liberskind - "Chamber Works: Architectural Meditations on Themes from Heraclitus"
5 John Hejuduk - "The Lancaster / Hanover Masque"
