表示“否则，要不然”时，otherwise和or的区别

Otherwise和or都可以表示如果不做某事会出现不好的结果（if something is not done then something unpleasant will happen），如：

•You'll have to go now, otherwise you'll miss your bus.你现在得走了，要不然就赶不上公共汽车了。

• Make haste, or you will be late for school. 你再不快点，上学就要迟到了。

有人说这种情形下，or用于“祈使句+or+陈述句”这种句型中，其实这是不正确的，请看下面前半句并非祈使句的例子：

• She had to have the operation, or she would die. 她必须动手术，要不然就没命了。

Otherwise也是可以用于祈使句之后的，如：

•Phone home, otherwise your parents will start to worry. 给家里打个电话，不然你父母会开始担心的。

至于二者的区别，otherwise可以用在句首，而or不可以，如上句You'll have to go now, otherwise you'll miss your bus. 完全可以写为You'll have to go now. Otherwise you'll miss your bus.也是没有问题的。但or是不可以的。

另外一点，otherwise并不一定都是表示unpleasant thing will happen这种情形，它可以表示under other circumstances，如：

•I am late. Otherwise I might have helped. 我来迟了，不然我也许可以帮得上忙的。
