What can we learn from Tang Changhong, the chief designer of type-20 large military airlift aircraft as well as academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering?
As the leader of the designing team of the mentioned aircraft, Tang has been working assiduously in his project in the past couple of years, together with a batch of excellent engineers of various ages. Once one of the top leaders of the PLA exhorted him, saying that he and team would be honored for their outstanding service to the Chinese nation if they complete their mission, but be letting their fellow countrymen down if they fail. So what a heavy pressure they were confronting at that time! No wonder when he was asked after the successful taking off of the aircraft whether he would be willing to be the leading designer of a bigger plane, his response was that he would rather serve tea or water to whoever would be engaged in the new project. Obviously the project was putting a great strain on his mind in the past. Yet, wonders have been created and commission which had seemed impossible has been fulfilled. Each of us is fully aware that what commitments they must have made and what sacrifices they must have endured. We owe great gratitude to their contributions!
