Rain of Shanghai
Rain of Shanghai
I’ve got a deep secret few people understand and even fewer will admit to sharing. It’s time to tell the truth: I love the rain, deeply and passionately and more than the sun. Shanghai, the place where I live in, is famous for its prosperity and huge capacity. Also, it is my hometown, where I was born and grew up. Sunshine in Shanghai is so frequently that it always connotes hope and opportunity. How vigorous the city is! Yet, I welcome the rain.
Although people in Shanghai will say they like how rain keeps the city green, how clean the air tastes afterwards; they don’t really like the rain. They complain about the muddy shoes, the grim sky, the wet streets, they complain about everything. But I still love the rain. Holding my umbrella, I enjoy walking on the wet but clean street and watching the pond being poured little by little. Staying at home, I enjoy overseeing various umbrellas walking in the street in haste. Either I can spend the afternoon lying in the bed with the movies being player or curled reading books with a cup of coffee. Nobody expects me to go out. I can enjoy the freedom of loneliness. I can wear my heavy but warm clothes at home and do something unimportant.
Sunny days in Shanghai is really beautifully and splendid. The sunny, gorgeous weather and blue sky draw people from their cozy little homes, ready to pull them to have the ambition to achieve something. Folks, in full battle array, are ready to go. They walk fast to get the early bus, work hard to get promoted. Their eyes are shinning, their brain are spinning. Moreover, the city is developing fast.
It is a sin around here to not thoroughly strive every moment of every golden day. It’s embarrassing to answer, “Did you have any clear goals at present?” with “No, I want to live my peaceful life.”Co-worker frown and change suspicious looks; Apparently, I am not the ambitious guy they are looking for. I tried lying, but my heart won’t allow me.
Another mark in Shanghai rain’s favor is my city image in my heart. In my eyes, Shanghai is more than the so-called metropolis. It is just a city which everyone must hide deeply and secretly in their hearts. When rain pours down, the city will take off its gorgeous mask, the brisk face will appear. When the first raindrop falls n the lanes and alleys, you will hear old granny voices clearly, to their neighbors to fetch their clothes outside. Also, you will see the pedestrians are no more in a hurry to go and building with aroma of old Shanghai which you missed to see when in is sunny Shanghai. With the rain, broad leaves shone and swung gaily in the rhyme, and you will fell feel the pace in Shanghai is slowing down and a nameless sense of peacefulness. You may even find a new one in your body.
It’s time to publicly acknowledge that I love the rain, how it transforms my house in to a cozy cave where I can spend the whole afternoon dreaming and relaxing, how it changed a metropolis into a city full of sensibilities where I can find peace and security. It seems that nobody else will admit to a love affair with rain, nobody will groan when it is sunny outside and join me in a rainy dance.
When the sun comes out I do greet with a big smile, put on light cloth and exert myself to my goal. Yet the memory of the comfortable leisure time and the view of the totally different city image still appeal to me. Making me wish for a another rain. When the rain returns, I will dance in the rain in Shanghai’s old street, will you join me?
