Painting Cinema and Scripts
1 How will you use social media? Now that you know social engagement conflicts with being watched?
I think I do want a level of conversation. I'm not sure if that conversation needs to happen on facebook. I do not know if I want to be connected to everyone everyday, at least not in a naked kind of way, which is how it feels when I update myself everyday, the level of my mundanity is so obvious and hard not to notice. I don't like the mundane. In fact I hate it with a fire and gut, like Lee Kit does in a sort of way. How can I make social media feel mobile?
Facebook is like my roledex, a basic way of keeping track of all the people I know and their networks. It's not that I'm against transparency. I have a hard time letting go the idea that information is capital and people are on the lookout to steal. I was really disturbed when she wrote a fictional essay minutes after we had a conversation about my experiences and inspirations. I just don't want to be cashed so easily. Shit happens.
2 What do you like about David Lynch
I like his short films, the Alphabets and 8 Men Throwing Up. I enjoyed the way he put a narrative together and I enjoyed the painterly way of treating with the frames. Today I learned that there is a logic to editing cuts. Matching cuts by sound, by eyeline, by symmetrical angles...
3 How are you editing your films
I am editing them like I am writing music. It is a composition. I'm still not sure how to do them, and today I watched Polyphonic and I am a little scared that I am starting to lose interest. I don't know why that scares me. I need to make more work and stop being precious.
