poker game
This weekend our company hold a competition of cards game for the anniversary celebration at yesterday, saturday afternoon. Although it was a heavy rainstorm that I almost can't see anything when I was driving, we players all arrived at the teahouse in time.
The poker game is called "80 points" or "level up" or "tractor" which is fashionable in China. Four players play as two team-opponents with two decks of cards. At the beginning, two teams are both at the lowest level "2". If the score which the player got is less than 80, the dealer will level up in next round. If the player is so unlucky that the score is less than 40 or fail to get any point, the dealer will up two levels or three levels. On the other hand, if the player get more than 80 points will win in turn to be the dealer in the next round. Additionally, when the score reach to 120 points or 160 points or more, the player will up one level or two levels or more as a bonus. That's means 40 points equal to a level. At last, the team who level up to "A" first or reach to more higher level in the limit time will be the winner.
Yesterday, there are totally 12 teams or 24 players coming from different departments. The six winning teams will advance to the final eight at the first knockout round. And the team whose level is the first and second higher among the six losers will be lucky to get the left two quotas to advance to next round. Each round stage will last 1.5 hours. So the champion should play 4 round or 6 hours continously. It's a prolonged battle.
My teammate is a unreliable guy whose surname is "GAO" from the R&D department. "GAO" means "high" in Chinese. Our team name is funny and creative. It's called "GAO Pingzhi" after our names that means "high quality" in Chinese. The last word of my given name means "quality". Sometimes, a good name may harbingers the luck and victory.
At the first round stage, our opponent were two girls from the Financial Department. Don't look down upon the female team. Because they were the runner-up last year. So our goal was just advancing to the final eight. But to be honestly, they were not as strong as supposed. We wined the game and advanced. We were heartened that we achieved the tiny goal.
The following awful opponent were two guys from Auditiing Department. They were stronger than the two girls obvious. They talked less and keeped silence when playing. The nervous atmosphere made us pressured. And we made some mistakes. When the time was just half hour left only, our score was 3 vs 8. They outscored certainly. Time passed slowly, and we lost the hope gradually. But the Luck Fairy stood at our side. We got good cards in several rounds and turned the tables. At last, we winned and advanced to top four! Although we played so so, we had luck. What amazing!
In the semifinals round, we faced a young team, a girl and a boy from the Compliance Department. We played very relax and joyful at this round. They were among the 6 lost teams at the first round. Owe to the high score and luck, they also advanced to semifinals like us. We talked, and made jokes. And we were tired. You know, we all had been playing for almost 4 hours.
We were too weary to think deeply. Owe to the more experience, we wined. Wow, what a wonderful victory. We never dreamed we will be in the finals.
The another finalist was the champion last year. The two guys were from Financial Department too. At the beginning, we got 330 points in a round by lucky that we leveled up to "8". But they were so strong that we lost quickly. They achieved the level "A" first and defended champion successfully. We were regretless too that we were runner-up which we also never dreamed.
It was a very funny, tired and happy day.
BTW, the awrad is 1200 RMB for champion team. We got our award 1000 RMB. Hahaha
