IELTS 26 Jun Task 2
Because of traffic and housing problems in the cities, the government encourages business move to the rural area. Do you think the advantages outweigh the disadvantages?
Traffic congestion and housing problem in metropolitan area are two of the major issues that government needs to tackle with constant effort. Some suggest that business should relocate to the rural area to ease the problem, but others are concern it may impose detrimental effect on business owner and citizens. Personally I think the disadvantages are more severe than the benefit of business relocation.
Relocating business to non-metropolitan region allow workers to travel towards to rural area instead of center of the city during the peak hour. It could prevent concentration of traffic within one particular area and workers could enjoy a faster and smoother commute if they are travelled by bus or by car to their workplace. In terms of insufficient residential area in urban area, shifting of business could free up more space and land to build more houses and residential buildings. It could also cool down the housing price since the supply is increasing.
However there are some potential problems which make it infeasible in practice. For example, it would be relatively inconvenient if the business is related to daily consumption such as supermarket and salon. Citizens who live in this city model will find it inconvenient for purchase and consumption. As a result, such city design would discourage consumption and affect the business which located in rural area.
In conclusion, it would be a good idea to shift business outside the central of the city in order to solve traffic and housing problem; however it may also cause significant inconvenience for citizen’s living and purchasing.
