【小站名师解析雅思写作】How to write a thesis statement?(四)
the points of each paragraphs. Today's class will talk about the phase of "Brainstorming" which is, from my perspective, the most important component of a refined thesis. We will start out from different standpoints and writing styles of a thesis and try to help you to build up the frame and content of a thesis.
There are many ways to build up the structure of your thesis, but when it comes to "how to deliver your main thoughts?", many students are just baffled.
Let's take a classic example to help you understand what a truly refined and abundant thesis content is.
Topic:Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? To improve the quality of education, universities should spend more money on salaries for university professors.Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.
Sample answer:
Over the years, the drastic debate over whether if we should enhance the salaries of university professors has never be eased. As a common phenomenon, all schools of high learning are seeking a universal evaluation mechanism of their professors which can eventually sort the real "pros" from the "outsiders". As far as I am concerned, to spend more money on their salaries could be one of the stimulus for those professors but never the best manner to urge them to stay. A more optimized and long-term rewarding system which should be carried out to retain the teaching staff is manifested in the following statements.
To begin with, the increased salary is not equal to a better academic performance of those professors. Under the current circumstances, the professors in the college or university are already the best paid ones among all the faculties. However, it doesn't mean that they are better academically or professionally than those docents and lecturers. If we keep raising their salaries, especially those less qualified and sloppy professors, regardless of the other hard working and devoted teachers, the psychological imbalance will be prevailing in the campus. Until then, how are we supposed to expect those real dedicated faculties give all their best and enthusiasm to their works?
Moreover, the criteria of a good professor is com-positive which can not only be evaluated by his salary but also his academic achievements and his influence among students. Spontaneously, what a real professor needs is more than a handsome pay but the sense of identification and belonging. If the university could help the professors to achieve the ultimate fruit of academic research and build up a mutual respect atmosphere for them, they will be definitely motivated and willing to maximize their efforts to improve the quality of education
Last but not the least, the university should also pay attention to their financial allocation, hence, to manage their budget rationally. It is not only the faculty pay but also other aspects need the fund and financial support. For example, the laboratory research, the sports arena and the students' scholarship are all of high importance to an elite university, which if under-evaluated, will surely cast a shadow on the overall developments of such university and tip the balanced of a routine school life.
To summary, the increased salary of professor could only contribute slightly to the improvement of education. As for the radical leap of the pedagogy, university itself should still consider how to mold the sense of responsibility and identity of those professors.
Let's cut the words and we will see the main ideas.
As far as I am concerned, to spend more money on their salaries is not the best way. A more optimized and long-term rewarding system which should be carried out to retain the teaching staff.(disagree but still stay neutral)
To begin with, the increased salary is not equal to a better academic performance of those professors.
(Say that this approach could be effective but what if there's a better one, stay critical)
Moreover, the criteria of a good professor is com-positive which can not only be evaluated by his salary but also his academic achievements and his influence among students.
(Doubt weather this approach is the correct one, because nothing is perfect, think from both sides)
Last but not the least, the university should also pay attention to their financial allocation, hence, to manage their budget rationally.
(Think about other impact this approach would have, if is carried out, may it will improve one aspect, but affect the others, stay com-positive)
To summary, the increased salary of professor could only contribute slightly to the improvement of education.
