【Machines vs. souls】

Disadvantages: cannot explain; how is soul and body connected
Contrast: machine can play chess, recognize things etc.
Human are machines/brains?

1.Neuron:
cells; basic unit of brain;
3 major parts: dendrites(get signals from other neuron, excitatory and inhibitory-);axon(long); myelin
A lot; connected;
3 kinds: sensory neuron; motor neuron; interneuron
Do not grow back- some can
All or nothing firing- sensation is graded: number of neuron firing and frequency of firing
Connection with each other: chemically; from axons and dendrites; little gap-synapse,
neurotransmitter(chemicals)+and-; fiddle transmitter agonist and antagonist-e.g. alcohol, amphetamine

Neuron network: Different from computers - resistant to damage; fast; parallel process
Brain is needed for what: above cortex
Brain structure: cortex-lobes; mapping-topographical, size not corresponding; fMRI, CAT, PET research and brain damage research
