問：網上有英文練習說，以下一句，「文法錯誤」，但我看不到錯在哪裏，先生可以談談嗎？──The blue rabbit likes to hang out with dragons; but it never gets eaten（藍兔喜歡和龍交往，卻沒有被吃掉）。
答：這一句我不會說文法有誤，只是句中分號最好改為逗點。一般而言，and、but等連接詞連接的子句（clause），其間會用逗點，出練習題的那位先生，無疑認為用分號是「文法錯誤」。不過，句子假如多逗點，或文字結構複雜，則but、and之前常見用分號，方便讀者理解。以下兩句，錄自韋氏寫作指南Webster's Compact Writers Guide，可為例證：（1）We fear that this situation may in fact, occur; but we don't know when（我們擔心這情況或真會發生，但不知道發生在什麼時候）。（2）In a society that seeks to promote social goals, government will play a powerful role; and taxation, once simply a means of raising money, becomes, in addition, a way of furthering those goals（要促進社會的目標，政府舉足輕重；而賦稅從前只是籌款手段，現在也可用來實現這些目標）。
問：動詞help之後，是不是必須用bare infinitive（不帶to的原形動詞），不能用ing動詞？
答：Help解作「幫助」，其後用「to＋原形動詞」或「不帶to原形動詞」都可以；但cannot help/ could not help（忍不住）之後，則須用ing動詞，例如：（1）I helped him（to）make a plan（我幫他制定計劃）。（2）I could not help laughing（我忍不住笑起來）。
