Chapter 16
"Expectation is a powerful force. Expect the things you want, and don't expect the things you don't want." —— The Secret
Trevor was bent on taking Mia out to dinner by the bayside, and was being exceptionally charming that evening. Mia couldn't quite figure out why, but she went along with it, and dressed up in her most ravishing gown. It went along well enough, and then Trevor suggested awalk in the mall, which she readily agreed.
They were chatting and strolling along, when Trevor suddenly took an interest to jewelery shops. “Whatever for?” Mia asked, out of curiosity, though her intuition already told her the answer. "Why, to get a ring of course," said Trevor. "And I want us to both choose it together." They visited every shop in the vicinity before Trevor set his sights one one particular shop. "Show me your selection of engagement rings," said Trevor to the shop assistant.
Mia couldn't help but smile to herself. "You choose the ring - I'll be nearby!"
Trevor smiled, and finally picked one with the shiniest diamond he ever saw. "This is it, then," he thought to himself.
They went out to the bayside, and at one end of the shore, where the crowds were scarce, they stopped. "Sit down, Mia," said Trevor. "And close your eyes - no peeking." Mia knew what was coming next, but she still did as she told with bated breath. There were a few rustles, and then she heard Trevor's voice.
"You can now open your eyes, Mia."
Trevor had gotten down on one knee in front of her, holding her hands. In his left hand were a bouquet of the most exotic and beautiful purple flowers, and in his right hand was a ring.
The ring, for her.
"Mia," Trevor said with a beaming smile, "will you marry me?"
