Gun Control
Heated in the US is the petition of deportation of British talk show host at CNN,Piers Morgan.
A couple days ago,he interviewed gun advocates such as Larry Pratt, after the Newtown Massacre ,and when Larry argued that it's the gun which would otherwise defend the people, and depriving of ownership of the gun may put them in a position vulnerable to the attack of criminals,Piers cut him off, saying to him' you are unbelievably stupid man'.Also in another interview,he called the director of National Rifle Association with 4 million members,NRA,dangerous. To my surprise,it immediately caused huge response. On the White House website,a petition to the Federal to deport Piers was initiated and so far 65000 signed and supported it.As ruled, if the supporters surpassed 25000 within 30 days, the government must deal with it. Despite of this,Piers wrote he did not object to the second amendment of the Constitution, but instead was furious of those who still think more guns will be the solution to the gun killings. He added,he would deport himself if the US does not come up with anything, like, at least to pass a law to limit the assault weapon to protect the innocent from being killed by guns.He continued ,as to his outspoken comments, how about my rights from the first amendment of freedom of speech? However, the supports of his deportation seem growing. One angry reader wrote: send him back to England.I Don't want a British guy telling Americans what to do and speaking out against the constitution,to quote.
When I brought up the issue of Gun control to my students on Friday, majorities of them fought for freedom of gun ownership.Mostly sided with are that it's man who kills, but not the guns, guns can be used for the sake of their defense, and if there is anything wrong with guns in terms of killing, the list could be very long, such as knife, wooden sticks or even chairs, ignoring totally of the Newtown massacre, the severe damage of crimes because of use of guns, and implications of guns to violence.I asked them if everyone had a gun, either a handgun, semiauto rifle or heavy machine gun, would you feel more secure, and could it defense youself if a crime had occured with a gun? They were silent ,a long pause.
