Day 1: Perth Beach Getaway
Grab the goggles, jump in the car and take a drive along West Coast Highway to Mettams Pool. Located between Trigg and Hillarys Marina it is approximately a 15 minute drive from the centre of Perth. This sheltered ocean rock pool is a favourite family beach with locals and is an ideal spot for the snorkelling novice. It's also great for swimming and dry and wet reef exploration.Mettams Pool
You'll find a popular cycle track here that connects to Sorrento Beach (further north) and Trigg Island (just south), so borrow or hire a bike and take in the spectacular ocean views as you journey to your next seaside destination.
For those driving, head a little further south along West Coast Highway to one of Perth's most famous beaches - Scarborough Beach. It's one of the most popular swimming and surfing spots in the metropolitan area, and is equipped with public toilets, showers and change rooms. You'll also find plenty of free parking just metres from the sand.
Take an invigorating stroll along the seemingly endless shoreline before plunging in for a dip. Or grab the surfboard and catch a wave. Scarborough Beach is also a favourite with bodyboarders, windsurfers and kite surfers - see them in action or join in the fun.
Scarborough has a smorgasbord of cafés, restaurants and fast food outlets, so it's a good choice for lunch. You can either dine-in or take away to enjoy on the large grassy areas or under picnic gazebos.
And if you're looking for somewhere to stay, there are many accommodation choices in Scarborough, from hotels and serviced apartments to backpacker hostels and motels. Most are only metres from the beach and provide awesome outlooks onto glistening water.
A 10 minute drive south of Scarborough Beach will find you at the pleasant and less crowded Swanbourne Beach. This strip of the coast is also our most popular.
If nudity doesn't appeal, head back to the main beach at Swanbourne for more modest bathing, or drive five minutes further along Marine Parade to Cottesloe Beach - another local favourite also offering plenty of free parking.
