PROFESSOR Tommy Koh has suggested that Singapore should have laws requiring establishments to separate food waste from other kinds of waste at source ('Green thoughts inspired by Stockholm and Rio'; June 16).
Tommy Koh 教授建议，新加坡政府应制定相应的法律法规，从源头上将食物垃圾与其它类型的垃圾分开处理（具体内容见6月16日发表的“斯德哥尔摩和里约的绿色环保措施带来的启示”）。
Through anaerobic digestion, the food waste can produce biogas to generate electricity.
IUT Global, the only food waste recycling plant that was providing such service, closed down last year because of lack of support.
经厌氧消化过程后，食物垃圾会产生用于发电的沼气。IUT Global曾是本地唯一一家从事食品垃圾循环利用的公司，但由于缺乏支持，于去年关闭。
I am currently working part-time for a supermarket as a retail assistant in the fruit and vegetables department, and I used to work for another hypermarket. The reality is that we discard hundreds of kilos of spoilt fruit and vegetables every day.
