Ideas about information explosion
Explosion is the word people used while describing the information's increasing in 21st century. But at first, we should know what exactly is information. Long ago, a friend discuss with me the difference of 'smart' 'cleaver' and 'wisdom', he told me when he was studying in Belgium, his mentor taught him that the world is consist of data, and when you collect them and put them into different categories, it becomes information, when you summarize those information into some neat sentences, it was changed to knowledge, to upgrade knowledge into intelligence is a superman's work, and then from intelligence to wisdom is so call "gift from the god".
I plan to spend some time with one of the vice dept. mgr to learn more about the infrastructure of our data center, although I know this system is going to be replaced by a new one early next year. This make me think of 'what is the meaning of learning the structure if we are heading to the new one?'. We should start to work on the new system and learn from that directly. However, to learn more information is never too bad, especially the big guy agrees to spare his time for you.
This leads me to think about the information of the system is right there, kept in the cabinet or in the brain of somebody, if you have it after the knowledge transfer, you can have it, but still, it's that same information in the world.
Further more, from the world's point of view, information never grows, it's just the internet who takes away the fence between different groups of people, from different continents, different countries, different raises...
So the information is just there, waiting for you to explore.
