What is a Bar?
A bar is an area where alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks are mixed and served. There will be some typical locaitons of the bar include the lobby, inside the restaurant or poolside. Bar provide stools or chairs for the patrons along tables or raised couters. Some bars have entertainment on a stage, such as a live band, dancers or a floor show.
Bar that are part of hotels are sometimes called long bars or hotel lounges. The layout of the bar is depends on the type of operation. Hotel beverage operation is different with bar restaurant. Bar restaurant is fully concentrating on the alcoholic beverage service and the skill of deliver the service to the guest. The hotel's bar is a place to provide the guest to grab some drinks, relax and listen to the music, just slightly designed like a lounge.
A bar's owners and managers typically choose establishment names, decor, drink meuns, lighting and other elements they can control so as to attcht a certain clientele.
Type of Bar
Cafe: Generally located in town, city center and villages, this kind of outlet is the place where people will meet. More people in US and South of Europe, the cafe is not well decorated area. Faithful guest or tourist, people like to go there because of the ambiance and the friendliness happening there. All drinks can be found there but most of the time simple drinks like wine, draught beer and coffee are ordered.
Pub: Pub is for England what Cafe is for France......this outlet made in England get very restic but warm decoration typically Briton. The beverage list focus more on all kind of beers, whiskies and cocktails. The food is most of the time local simple food. The clientele is more young and faithful guests.
Long Bar: Located in the city center or famous area, long bar or American Bar is very cozy and luxurious place. The staff brigade is generally very complete. The clientele , rich and international, enjoys having tea time or sharing classic cocktails.
Hotel Bar: This type of bar can be seen in high range and high standed hotel. The staff is skillful and very knowlegeable. All type of beverage is served there. They are in charge of the service of the drinks for the restaurant, the bar, the room service and function sometims. Sometims, one hotel can have different type of bar, each one having their proper characteristics and theme.
Night Club: Live area, modern with its own entity where are the guest can enjoy all type of beverages with or without alcohol. The beverage list is not very detail due to the simple beverags served in there outlets(gin, whiskies, vodka with mixers). The staff is not necessarily skillful, one person will be in charge of the place, the chef barman.
Bar-Brasserie: Located in city center and touristic area, this kind of outlet is very special by their wide opening hours from morning to night and by their wide choice of items, Breakfast, tea-time, beers, aperitif and digestive drinks, cocktails...can be enjoyed by their important range of clientele(business, leisure, family...) Most of the time this outlet has a terrace where people can enjoy the weather and the waiter working there can get the name of 'limonadier'.
Rum Bar: Theme and specific area with decoration and ambiance of tropical island. Very simple beverages are served with or without alcohol. Their list is full of cocktail based with different type of rum.
Lounge: It's a luxurious area which can be part of a hotel. From evening, 7pm to end of the night, there beverage list is very complete and details with choice of cocktails and classic alcohol drinks. Some performance can be done in this kind of place(singer, live and pianist).
Cocktail Bar: High standed outlet, opening end of morning untill late at night. The guest enjoy having their drinks at the bar or lay on comfortable benches or chairs. The beverages are basically cocktails and mocktails and the bartender enjoy doing some flair and performance in front of the guest. The staff is all professionals passionate.
