Douban--a totally new style
Very accidentally i linked douban through a search for books on google. It offers a unique online social network system involving books movies and activities. That makes me fall for it at the first sight.
Xiaonei.com succeeded in copying facebook and grabbed the dominance of China's sns. However personally douban,a less known sns,will see a brighter future. Xiaonei.com supplies no amazing things but an easy combination of blogs,images,and some other old fashion made by Web 2.0. One thing that makes it a hit is that xiaonei constructed a relatively real system in China and wisely takes advantage of the huge group of college students. "Real" becomes its biggest selling point. Always critics say that sns is nothing but superficiality in communication for it does not deeper the relationship while broadening it. Douban somehow gains an access to large numbers of resources of books,movies and music,making the site full of topics shared by certain group of people. Also,like a stage,douban holds massive discussion based on common interests in books,movies and music. And those great performers are users. Actually the introduction of common interets in books and movies is not the invention of douban. Douban just does it differently by excellent job of managing such a giganic database,turning it into a highlight among numerous national sns sites.
Another highlight is local activity system,which is also not a ispiration of douban itself. Once again douban manages to make it work out quite well. Last Thursday I got to known an exibhition on a civilisation in ancient Greece from douban and i carried it out of network to reality. That was the first time i participated an online-proposed activity though I did not met any online organizer or participants in the venue. Because of the fine system i was informed of the recent activities including movies,lectures,saloons and quite a lot of amazing things.
Other features leave me an impression of something freer. Topics in Group and blogs recommended in Jiudian show me a relatively open and professional viewpoints on social issues compared to today's strictly controlled online speeches. I have to admit that this should be one main reason for my love for douban because there is not much online space left within China that is not filled with stupid nationalism, disgusting remarks and fanatic logics. Xiaonei makes me real sick with endless ridiculous articles of nationalism and false emotions of ignorant sutdents. I just hope and pray that douban has a longer life out of the authorities'eyes and hands and that douban will not be "harmonized".
