评语：The long history of steppe polities and empires presents a picture of power structures interacting in various modes of articulation, competition, and superimposition as part of contingent historical processes. These various imperial projects resemble Tambiahs (1985, 261) "galactic polity" model of the state in Southeast Asia: What emerges is a galactic picture of a central planet surrounded by differentiated satellites, which are more or less ',autonomous" entities held in orbit and within the sphere of influence of the centre.
