什么是TED？

TED（指technology, entertainment, design 在英语中的缩写，即技术、娱乐、设计）是美国的一家私有非营利机构，该机构以它组织的TED大会著称。TED诞生于1984年，其发起人是里查德•沃曼。2002年起，克里斯•安德森接管TED，创立了种子基金会（The Sapling Foundation），并营运TED大会。每年3月，TED大会在美国召集众多科学、设计、文学、音乐等领域的杰出人物，分享他们关于技术、社会、人的思考和探索。TED是社会各界精英交流的盛会，它鼓励各种创新思想的展示、碰撞。
TED 是一个跨界的智库，是一个对话的平台，更是实现 ideas 的舞台。TED 分别代表的是科技 (technology)、娱乐 (entertainment)、设计 (design)，是一年一度的创新盛会 。1984 年由 Richard Wurman 在加州创立，原本只是一群朋友间的脑力大激荡，他们来自不同的领域，他们有些是建筑师、科学家、教育家、诗人、剧作家、创业家、设计师等等。他们对未来充满热情，又有一些叛逆，聚在一起讨论最新最酷的点子,和如何可以改变这个世界。
TED 的独特性在于它用“说故事”的方式为这个大会定调。每位讲者用 18 分钟的时间把她 / 他用故事的方式现出来，在讲者踏上讲台的那一刻故事就已经开始。TED 在 2002 年由 媒体创业家 Chris Andreson 买下。 Chris 创办过 Business 2.0，熟知 web 2.0 的力量。他将 TED 纳入他的非营利组织 Sapling Foundation，并且从 2006 年开始将过去的演讲内容放到 Ted.com，让全世界可以免费收看，并且结合社群媒体的力量，形成持续的长尾效应。过去 25年来 TED 所探讨的议题甚广，除了科技、娱乐、设计，更涵盖了环保、全球议题、非洲、创业等等。参与过 TED 包括有 Google 的创办人、生态保育学家 珍 古德 ( Jane Goodall)、环保斗士 高尔、摇滚乐团 U2 主唱 Bono 等等。
TED 在 2009 年开放品牌授权，由会员自行策划 TEDx.

Started as a four-day conference in California 25 years ago, TED has grown to support those world-changing ideas with multiple initiatives. The annual TED Conference invites the world’s leading thinkers and doers to speak for 18 minutes. Their talks are then made available, free, at TED.com. The annual TED Conference takes place in Long Beach, California, with simulcast in Palm Springs; TEDGlobal is held each year in Oxford, UK. TED’s media initiatives include TED.com, where new TEDTalks are posted daily, and the Open Translation Project, which provides subtitles and interactive transcripts as well as the ability for any TEDTalk to be translated by volunteers worldwide. TED has established the annual TED Prize, where exceptional individuals with a wish to change the world are given the opportunity to put their wishes into action; TEDx, which offers individuals or groups a way to host local, self-organized events around the world, and the TEDFellows program, helping world-changing innovators from around the globe to become part of the TED community and, with its help, amplify the impact of their remarkable projects and activities.
