This episode showed the best and worst of Daemon's "love". He's exceedingly loyal (crowned Rhaenyra with no hesitation and announced her as Queen) but his love is twisted. It's really no coincidence that he snapped like that when he saw that Rhaenyra was channeling Viserys, probably the only other person he truly loved but had a very complicated relationship with.

I'm getting quite pissed with the portrayal of Daemon, in comparison to the source material.
Like, it began with small things in episode 1: cheating at the joust, and portraying the Gold Cloaks a bit weirdly - but the show handled his relationship with Viserys amazingly (I loved their confrontation). But as we went on... well, these 'defects' add up (and get progressively bigger)... the showrunners removed Mysaria's pregnancy/loss (turning it into a ruse, rather than giving Daemon something to grieve), made him kill his wife, ignored his happy relationship with Leana (and the respect/grief he shows when she dies), replacing it with an emotionless arse, ignoring his kids and laughing at the funeral. Now we have him threatening loyal Kingsguard members, ignoring Rhaenyra during birth-complications, and choking her.
It's getting tiring. I feel like everyone is getting whitewashed to some extent, except for Daemon, who they are actively trying to make worse for some reason.

I’m all for adding some nuance to the characters that seemed more one dimensional in the book, but instead they’ve gone out of their way to paint basically every female character (especially the main two) as a fundamentally good person who has never done anything wrong and all their flaws are due to them reacting to their society or the men around them. Like, please god, just let some characters be mean. Let them be selfish and petty and cruel just like they are in the books. I hate that we’ve taken two very ambitious (and often unlikable) women from the book and written them so they’re now fundamentally different characters.

Which is going to eventually be a major problem if they don’t fix that.

How the scene will actually play out:
Vhagar and Caraxes are spiraling toward the ground, suspended in a snapshot of breathtaking violence as they plunge towards the God's Eye, Daemon looming over Aemond with his Valyrian blade shining with the light of reflected dragonfire. The air around them is hazy from the blasts of brilliant heat as the tremendous beasts grapple with each other in a fight to the death.
Rhaenyra suddenly bursts through the ground on Syrax, resplendent in glittering armor, even though she was wearing a night gown in the previous scene. She gives each of her opponents and a glare, then sharply questions them about their toxic masculinity.
"What's your name?" Aemond finally asks sheepishly, who kind of forgot he's speaking to his half sister.
"Rhae Skywalker."
Rhaenyra flies off into the sunset looking suitably smug, and the episode fades to black.
Ryan Condal and Sarah Hess appear in an interview discussing their motivations. "I just thought it would be awesome if Rhaenyra burst into the scene and put them in their place."
"We just needed to give her a moment", they explain. "This demonstrates why she's the only true Queen. This was really a heroic moment for her."

Exactly this for me. As a real person he would be detestable. But I enjoy the character and how he acts and reacts to the world around him. I eagerly await his next bout of chaos just to see what happens in the story (relatively speaking, I've read the book, but the show will do some things different.)

I can't say that I find Matt Smith to be all that physically attractive, but his portrayal of Daemon is sexy as fuck. He's a fantasy bad boy who gives not a single fuck, sweats liquid charisma and rides a damn dragon. There are and always will be plenty of women into that, morality be damned. Bram Stoker's Dracula, for all intents and purposes, raped a woman on-screen and he was still one of the sexiest characters to hit the silver screen in his day. Women still love him, for essentially the same reasons they do Daemon. Some people have a strong attraction to power, charm, and confidence and they need look no further than that in a fantasy context. Like, have you SEEN a romance novel recently? Its way more normal than some folks in this subreddit seem to think it is.
I don't understand the purpose of trying to shame what is truly a harmless fantasy, and I'm not really interested in changing anyone's mind about it either. People are into what they're into. Like him, don't, either is fine. The callouts against people who do like the character and are enjoying the fantasy though, are getting unbelievably petty and ridiculous.
What difference does it make to you all?

It makes complete sense why his character is so popular, especially with women. Villains/bad boys have been super popular the past few years: Kylo Ren, Loki, the Darkling, Rhysand from ACOTAR.

He says what everyone is thinking, and they hate him for it. He’s also a brilliant combatant and believed in his own ability enough to charge into battle without Caraxes just to bait Craghas out. Say what you will about Criston’s “abilities”, the dude is a castle walking wuss who only beats up old men and has really pretty shiny armor. Daemon is an actual price and he gets his hands dirty.

I don't understand the purpose of trying to shame what is truly a harmless fantasy, and I'm not really interested in changing anyone's mind about it either. People are into what they're into. Like him, don't, either is fine. The callouts against people who do like the character and are enjoying the fantasy though, are getting unbelievably petty and ridiculous. 瓦格哈尔和科拉克休盘旋着跌向地面，画面停滞：一切悬浮在摄人心魄的战斗定格中，他们同时扑向上帝之眼。在若有若无的龙火之中，戴蒙拿起他的瓦雷利亚宝剑，俯视着伊蒙德。四周的空气被刺眼的光亮与蒸腾的热气扰乱，一切都模糊不清——两只巨大的野兽纠缠着扭打在一起，进行着殊死搏斗。
突然之间，雷妮拉骑着叙拉克斯从地面冲上天空，她穿着闪闪发光的盔甲（尽管她在前一次出现时穿着睡衣）。她对两个人怒目而视，尖锐地质问着他们有毒的阳刚之气。
“你叫什么名字？”埃蒙德羞怯地问，忘记了他实际上是在和他同父异母的姐姐说话。
“Rhae·天行者。” 雷妮拉带着心满意足的神色转头飞向夕阳，镜头慢慢变暗。

“我们只是需要给她一点时间，”他们解释道。“这说明了为什么她是唯一的、真正的女王。这对她来说是一个英雄的时刻。”

Honestly I don't rate characters based on how well liked they'd be in 2022, it's a medieval show. I just have a problem with Daemon being uninteresting, he's just so 2 dimensional, he's the so called badass gray character that doesn't give any fucks, but you never really get to actually know him or know why he's like that, and he doesn't really have any interesting dialogue in most episodes or have any real mystery behind him either. It feels like he's just there.
For the entire season, the only small hint we even got to something is when Daemon asked his brother why he didn't make him his hand, that's literally it, and it was never brought up again, Daemon just went back to being the quite badass, only conclusion we even got with his brother is that scene with him giving him back his crown, we should've at least gotten a full scene of Daemon's final confessions with his brother, telling him why he resented him/remising about their childhood etc... And yeah we also got a scene of his dick not working, but that plotline disappeared without any conclusions.
Some people might like that Daemon is just a badass quite guy, but I for one would actually want to fucking speak up, he killed his wife in cold blood without even saying a word, like at least give us something to know why he hated her so much, but no, it's just basic information, and he silently kills her and that's it.

戴蒙当然比梅葛好多了，但是我也怀疑如果百分百照原著来他不见得会比现在被女性喜欢，外网也有这样的观点认为他在原著中除了是一个better father之外，其他地方拍出来观感会不如剧集（这和ms的演绎也有关系，他给戴蒙添了点脆弱面，比如埋头这样的动作） 书里看起来还可以的行为拍出来可能会变味。
