课程简介：Pāṇini's Aṣṭādhyāyī is one of the oldest grammatical treatises in the world but it has never been regarded as a very easy text. For practical purposes other works have been studied, e.g. Bhaṭṭoji's Siddhāntakaumudī, which belongs to the so-called new school of Indian grammatical thought. Bhaṭṭoji's approach might be easier than Pāṇini's but the Siddhāntakaumudī is still a lengthy text. Bhaṭṭoji's student, Varadarāja composed three abridgements of his guru's work. The small version, Laghukaumudī, is still the first choice in India for those wishing to study the Pāṇinian system in a traditional way.In this course we are going to read the Sārasiddhāntakaumudī, the latest and the smallest abridgement of the Siddhāntakaumudī. It has never been as popular as the Laghukaumudī, but it is doubtlessly still worth studying.
