Finally...recognition for his sterling work as Mr. Miyagi in the Karate Kid films.

Sadly Jacky Chan has turned into an apologist for the Chinese Communist Dictatorship

The plots of his films - meh.
The acting - meh
but the fight sequences and hair-raising set-piece stunts were tremendous entertainment

As the movies bloke used to say on sbs (before sbs went to the dogs), you don't watch Jackie CHan movies for the Shakesperean acting and dialogue- you watch them for the epic fight scenes and eye-popping stunts

JACKIE CHAN, JACKIE CHAN, JACKIE CHAN!!!!!!
Martial arts and humour - things that the Oscars don't traditionally approve of. Did someone put Tarantino in charge?
blarneybanana Dianne van Dulken 7h ago
Tarantino was too busy ripping it off

Chan's is decades overdue, but it's an example of someone who's award is for decades old work, rather than anything they've done recently.

cf. Hitchcock's Oscar

Anyone who has seen his earlier movies, shall agree that he actually deserved it... congratulations!

His really early movies were pretty ordinary, but once he started getting some creative clouth with Golden Harvest, he pretty much reshaped the Hong Kong movie scene, and moved it to a whole new level- of course there were others doing this too, such as Samo Hung & Yuen Biao, Ringo Lam, Chow Yun Fat (surely one of the world's coolest men), and many others besides. But he was one of the main factors

Thanks for all the entertainment, Jackie.
